Friday, June 13, 2008 / 8 pm

Volksbühne Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Linienstrasse 227, 10178 Berlin-Mitte, U2 Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz

An evening of new solo work by the Japanese multiinstrumentalist/composer Keiji Haino, known since the 1970s for his intensely cathartic sound explorations. The event includes the German premiere of his sound score for Cameron Jamie’s JO (2004, 42 min). For Jamie’s fourth film, JO, the artist investigates the precarious line that separates nationalism, patriotism, and bigotry. Immersing himself in peripheral elements of contemporary culture, Jamie becomes an ethnographer in search of alternative strategies for understanding and interpreting layers of knowledge and cultural structures. JO was coproduced in collaboration with the Neue Galerie Graz am Landesmuseum Joanneum in Graz, Austria. Cameron Jamie, born in 1969 in Los Angeles (US), lives and works in Paris (FR). Keiji Haino was born in 1952 in Chiba (JP), and currently resides in Tokyo (JP).
